ACHY FEET?

Standard

After running, yoga or just about any exercise– we have tired, achy feet. All we want is a good, relaxing massage but can’t have that all the time right? I found this great reading material about achy feet from ultimatewatermassage.com- interesting and worth doing! Happy reading…

Reflexology

Regain your balance and treat your feet

Our feet are our foundation. By being in constant connection with our brain, they enable us to stand, walk and balance. Our feet can carry several hundred tons of total weight in a single day. In confined spaces known as shoes, we walk up to five miles or 9,000 steps on an average day! In order to do this, the foot must maintain a certain level of tension. With repeated patterns of uninterrupted tension, our feet get tired and sore, thus creating stress throughout the entire body. That’s where do-it-yourself reflexology steps in.  By the use of specific hand and finger techniques, along with the application of essential oils to the feet, we can begin to interrupt stress patterns and clear any blockages that occur over time from everyday wear and tear.

Reflexology is an energy-based healing art that works through the nervous system. There are zones and reflexes on your feet and hands that “mirror” your entire body. Stimulating these reflexes sends messages to the associated body parts. It relieves tension, improves circulation, aids in the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the cells, and assists in bringing your body to a natural state of balance. There are many self-care techniques you can do to help ease the discomfort of tired, achy feet and aid the body in its own healing process. Some self-care techniques done on a regular basis, enhanced with the application of therapeutic-grade essential oils, can bring you one step closer to good health.

Essential oils are aromatic liquids extracted from flowers, trees, roots, bushes, rinds, and seeds. Each oil essence has up to hundreds of chemical components these complex oils have been used to support health for thousands of years. Essential oils are so small in molecular size that some can be absorbed through the skin.

Applying essential oils in proper dilution to the feet is a safe and effective way to deliver their healing properties throughout your body. In order to get the greatest benefit from their true healing powers, it is very important that you chose the highest quality therapeutic-grade essential oils.

Are you ready to begin self-care reflexology?

Start by doing an ankle rotation exercise. In a standing position, lift one foot up onto the ball of the foot. From this position, rotate clockwise ten times, then rotate counterclockwise ten times. Switch feet and repeat. This helps to relax the foot by loosening the four major muscle groups connecting the foot and leg. The rest of these exercises should be done in a seated position by placing the foot being worked on onto the thigh of the opposite leg.

Reflexology is one area in life where you should consider yourself first. Working on yourself is the best way to get started feeling the effects of reflexology. For instance, I began utilizing this therapy as a crisis management plan. When something would hurt in my body, I would go to the corresponding reflex point, and sure enough, the reflex point would be sore. I would rub the spot every chance I got. As the pain went away in my body, the tenderness would go away in my reflex point! Using the techniques on yourself will help you get in touch with your body and its functions.

What is YOGA?

Standard

Yoga (Sanskrit, Pāli: योग yóga) refers to traditional physical and mental disciplines originating in India.[1] The word is associated with meditative practices in Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism.[2][3][4] In Hinduism, it also refers to one of the six orthodox (āstika) schools of Hindu philosophy, and to the goal toward which that school directs its practices.[5][6] In Jainism it refers to the sum total of all activities—mental, verbal and physical.

Major branches of yoga in Hindu philosophy include Raja Yoga, Karma Yoga, Jnana Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, and Hatha Yoga.[7][8][9] Raja Yoga, compiled in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, and known simply as yoga in the context of Hindu philosophy, is part of the Samkhya tradition.[10] Many other Hindu texts discuss aspects of yoga, including Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita, the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, the Shiva Samhita and various Tantras.

The Sanskrit word yoga has many meanings,[11] and is derived from the Sanskrit root “yuj,” meaning “to control,” “to yoke” or “to unite.”[12] Translations include “joining,” “uniting,” “union,” “conjunction,” and “means.”[13][14][15] Outside India, the term yoga is typically associated with Hatha Yoga and its asanas (postures) or as a form of exercise. Someone who practices yoga or follows the yoga philosophy is called a yogi or yogini

Where to study BOXING?

Standard

boxing

When I started boxing 6 years ago, I went to Sphere Alabang (Festival Mall  which is now Slimmer’s World). Trainers in Sphere were all from Elorde so based from experience, it’s really Elorde that I highly recommend. Your trainers are really are boxers (who either are world class champions or still competing). Elorde boxing gym is a cheaper option with maximum results because your trainers will focus on you, build a bond and if you tell them what you want out of boxing, will dedicate to ensure you achieve it. I’ve gained all the possible pounds in the world from pregnancy and I just need to go back to Elorde and will lose them all.

In Sucat, the annual fee (membership) is just P500. Per session is Php200. 10 sessions at P1,500 and unlimited at Php2,500. To check other branches of Elorde, please click their site:

ELORDE BOXING GYM

BOXING:What do you need?

Standard

There are boxing gyms all around the Philippines that you can go to- price ranging from 150-400 per session. But unfortunately, for hygienic reasons, it’s best to have your own gear when you try out for BOXING. So what do you need on your first day?

1. JUGWater jug – with water (with lots of water, I suggest 1 liter or more

2.  POWERADE Gatorade, powerade to replenish lost fluid (you will sweat a lot!)

3.    TWOELThick hand towel – I sometimes bring 2 or 1 bath towel

4.    ProForce® Handwraps Hand wraps – if you are starting out, you can buy the cheaper ones like Titan/TKO ( less than Php 300) in your local store specialty shops: Cris Sports shop, Sports house, Olympic Village, Toby’s, etc. When you decide you will do boxing as a sport or exercise, you can use the professional white wraps usually imported from Japan (Php500-750) or move to wraps with label (I personally use Fairtex).

5.   BOXBoxing gloves – ahhh what to buy! before what, let’s talk about sizes. I suggest you start with something lighter like 8 -10 oz (women or kids) and 10-12 oz for men. As you progress, you can add weight to your gloves. For mits and bag routines, I only use 10 oz.  Now for the gloves: some people just buy gloves like TKO, Bulls which are economical (Php 1,500 below). However, since gloves are considered an investment because you will use them for a years, you can spend on TWINS -Thailand (PHP 2,500) or Everlast regular gloves (US) (velcro) (Php 2000). Personally, Twins last longer than any gloves I tried- next would be fairtex and last would be Everlast.

6.  SHOESRubber shoes- please do not attempt to buy boxing shoes if you will just try it out just to be in sync with the sport. A regular cross training or running shoes will do.

7.  SHRT Extra shirt – definitely need one or 2 unless you wish to dry your eeaky sweat after practice.

Cotto vs Pacquiao Fight

Standard

This is what I wrote in Cotto’s wall in FB:

Hi Miguel, this is Ira from the Philippines. I just want you to know that you were a real warrior the whole fight with Pacquiao. The sportsmanship and humility you showed truly gained the highest RESPECT from Filipinos like me. More power! Bless you and yuor family! Please know you are welcome to visit our country!!!

I just think that Cotto sustaining until the 12th round despite the hard punching of Manny was really heroic. Plus the fact that he embraced and congratulated Manny…. That truly made a difference! That’s a real man!

As for our boxing legend, I thank God that He blesses him with all the glory!!! I think I told my husband that when Manny has a fight, the whole country is STRESSED out! Wish STRESSTABS were given out for free, eh?

Congrats to the BOTH OF YOU for the great FIGHT YESTERDAY!!!!

As the teachers are open in assisting new faces, giving modified poses and the place is just like a second home. The rooms don’t look like a dance studio, it’s like a large serene room. The students too are just full of spirit, eager to get committed and offer their session to their own causes. You only need to bring yourself since they offer towels, hand towels, yoga mat and water. They even have a cafe lounge that offers vegan and fresh fruit shakes, HEALTHY!
